FORUM 8

This week, we looked at Infographics. Communicating complex information effectively is often more about the visual aspects than it is about the language.

Infographics have been around since long before digital technology. One of my favorite examples is the work of W. E. B. DuBois, who was designing cutting edge data visualizations by hand all the way back at the beginning of the twentieth century.

For Discussion Forum 8, do some research to identify an infographic that you find particularly effective. Provide a link to it and in one (1) paragraph describe why you think it is effective. It might be particularly helpful to research infographics that are related to an infographic you would like to create yourself. This week's assignment requires you to describe an infographic you would like to create and next week you will actually create the infographic. Examples of things you might comment on are are its use of color, text, white space, balance, weight, creativity or anything else that stands out to you.

To receive full credit craft your own post and then make a meaningful comment on at least two (2) of your classmates' posts. A meaningful comment is defined as 2-3 sentences that demonstrate clearly you have 1) read their original post in its entirety, and 2) you are responding to their thoughts and ideas in a clear and respectful way.

INFOGRAPHIC PITCH

In this assignment you will pitch your idea for the Infographic Assignment that we will be working on next week. Your infographic will combine graphics and text to visually communicate a complex idea or process related to your project. Your pitch should include:

One sentence at the top of your post that states clearly the idea for your Infographic
A one (1) paragraph description that offers more detail such as:
Details about the idea or process you want to convey
Graphic elements of the design that will support your communication goals
Any other considerations such as elements that may be especially difficult to convey or that you are unsure of how to convey

To receive full credit post your own work first and then make a meaningful comment on at least two (2) of your classmates' posts. A meaningful comment is defined as 2-3 sentences that demonstrate clearly you have 1) read their original post in its entirety, and 2) you are responding to their thoughts and ideas in a clear and respectful way.
